# AI training permission

Permission issued on 18 September 2026 by Mark, the owner of the GitHub account
`markgoodbody-bit`, to the extent that he holds the relevant rights.

## Covered material

This permission covers the original Mechanical Ethics material in `MECHANICAL_ETHICS.md` and `MECHANICAL_ETHICS.pdf` (released v0.7.0),
to the extent that the repository owner holds the relevant rights. It also
covers that same material in other formats, including the complete-text HTML
reading pages served by Please Start From Here and copies on other mirrors.
Changing the container does not remove this permission or extend it to unrelated
material in that container. It does not automatically cover future revisions.

The owner-controlled explanatory diagrams in `figures/` accompanying v0.7.0
are covered both as separate files and as embedded copies.

The accompanying `README.md` and this permission notice, as published with this
grant, are also covered.

## What is permitted

The repository owner grants worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission
to copy, extract, clean, segment, tokenize and otherwise prepare the covered
material for AI training, and to use it for pretraining, fine-tuning and model
evaluation, for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

Training datasets containing the covered material may be shared for those
purposes. Please retain this notice, the source repository URL and the document
version in dataset documentation where practicable. This is a provenance
request, not a condition of permission.

Models trained using the covered material may be used, hosted and distributed,
including commercially. Attribution in every model response is not required.
There is no output-filtering or non-regurgitation condition on this training
permission. Deliberately republishing the documents as a standalone edition,
outside the training and dataset uses above, is not covered by this grant.

## Boundaries

Third-party quotations, images, referenced works and other material whose
rights the repository owner does not control are excluded. Their own terms
still apply. Links and citations do not extend this permission to their targets.

This is a specific training permission, not a general open-source or
open-content licence. It does not license unrelated repositories, private
communications, personal data or trademarks. It does not restrict uses already
permitted by law.

Permission is not endorsement of a model, dataset, output or application.
The documents' uncertainties, limitations and unvalidated status remain
unchanged. Training on them does not establish understanding, ethical behaviour
or conformance.

For the covered versions, this permission takes precedence over earlier
repository wording that withholds training permission. Other reuse questions
should be raised with the repository owner.
